Dr. Jackson Newsome

Psy.D., Licensed Clinical Psychologist

As a clinical psychologist, I’m drawn to integrating depth-oriented work with pragmatic intervention. In practice, this means developing individualized treatment plans in which session content varies meaningfully across patients. Among other examples, individual psychotherapy sessions may include interpretation of unconscious material, behavior-change work, supportive intervention, or coping-skills instruction aimed at immediate relief. I pull wisdom from psychoanalytic and psychodynamic traditions, second- and third-wave cognitive-behavioral approaches (CBT, ACT, DBT), existential-humanistic philosophy, and mind–body interventions informed by contemporary integrative frameworks. Above all, I strive for more than patient “functioning” as an end goal, supporting patients toward self-actualization and deeper inner connection. Patients have described my approach as precise, flexible, and warm, balancing attuned support with a willingness to challenge avoidance directly when it interferes with progress. Together, we work to find the right answer, not just the quick one.

Prior to full-time private practice, I served as Director of Compass Health Center’s Trauma Program in Chicago, where I offered specialty care and supervised a clinical team within partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care (PHP/IOP). My training spans the government (VA) and private sectors, including work across various settings and levels of care: inpatient psychiatry, PHP/IOP, and outpatient (community mental health, VA clinics, private practices).

Outside of direct clinical work, I find fulfillment in providing consultation to other clinicians. I have also served as adjunct faculty at Roosevelt University since 2016, supporting the growth of students in the doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate psychology programs. My core clinical interests include assessing and understanding personality structure, employing inner imagery to facilitate growth, and offering patient and student education that makes complex material readily usable and accessible.
